"Through a Movie For a Better Understanding of Our Cultures"

Young people from Croatia, Poland, Portugal and Italy aged 18-26 were participants of the project. They created a group of 48 people (including 4 leaders). Each person was an active member of their organization, open to the develop and promote international cooperation in the field of youth, as well as having experience in this field. They were graduates of degree courses which promote the development of international relations, as well as all areas of cultural life, including film. Recruitment was based on a number of criteria, including knowledge of the English language, creativity, interest in film and openness towards international cooperation.
The aim of "Through the Movie for a Better Understanding of Our Cultures" was supporting intercultural dialogue between Poland and three countries of southern Europe by conducting a series of film workshops. The implementation of all planned activities enabled young people to acquire new skills, inspired them to develop film passion, not only by watching movies, but also by creating material effects resulting from the interests of the participants. Each participant got a number of benefits, including new skills acquired through the use of instruments of non-formal education. To achieve the full results it was important to show the cultural, economic and social dependence between different countries. Aims and objectives of the project included: - promoting Polish culture through contact with the culture and society of Polish cultural capital - Warsaw, especially through contact with peers, who were able to show positive cultural aspects of the city, region and the whole country in the best way; - enhancing dialogue and cooperation between four nations through active participation in discussions, meetings and workshops; - showing young people the opportunities and benefits that come from international cooperation, also in the framework of European Union programs; - showing young people their huge role, as individuals, contributing to enhancing cooperation and exploitig the potential of existing relations; - increasing sensitivity towards other cultures; - promoting informal learning and showing the possibilities offered by modern information and communication technologies in moving within modern states and societies; - promoting language learning as a way of deepening intercultural relations on the European continent. Project activities included team-building workshops which allowed to create tight-knit group of active young people; film workshops conducted by experts, including workshops on video edition; culture/cognitive visits in the most important places in Warsaw - including the Old Town, cinemas and theaters (combined with meetings with people working in movie industry), as well as in other places closely related to the cultural map of Warsaw. During these visits participants under the supervision of guides and experts created movies promoting Croatian, Polish, Portuguese and Italian culture, and the places connected with them but found in Warsaw. Participants prepared a film promoting multicultural Warsaw, as well as selected locations open to the participation in youth initiatives. All activities were based on using non-formal methods of education. During the project we conducted daily evaluation meetings, which enabled us to assess achieved results and benefits of the exchange. Project results include: - raising awareness of other cultures and openness towards them; - showing young people the ways and ideas helpful in their own personal and professional development; - acquiring new skills helpful in facilitating the labor market by young people; - building a network of international contacts that will contribute to the development of international cooperation; - encouraging active citizenship and participation in the life of different societies; - internalizing and increasing the potential and attractiveness of activities related to education and training of young people; - improving knowledge of foreign languages, especially Polish and English. |
